Website/Facebook Admin – Galveston, TX (Freelance)
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network has need for a web savvy individual to perform freelance work to update and/or maintain the current TMMSN website and Facebook news feed. The candidate for this position must be able to work from home, have high-speed internet access with all required hardware and software.
Job Description and Qualifications: Candidate must have a good working knowledge of HTML, JavaScript, FTP, website file management, and either Microsoft Expression Web or similar web design ftp utility. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop for manipulating TMMSN photos a must. Ability to create attractive logos or designs a plus. Candidate must be able to write merchandise code and integrate the website with the current merchant system used by the TMMSN for membership and donation processing.
Update the news feed of the Facebook page as required by the State Coordinator as well as taking the initiative to create interest in the organization by using Facebook to assist in drawing in members and volunteers and Facebook “Likes” to the TMMSN.
Necropsy Lab Coordinator – Galveston, TX (Part-time position)
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network has need for an individual to manage the TMMSN necropsy lab interests.
Job Description and Qualifications: Candidate will manage the TMMSN stranding and sample databases, marine mammal parts authorization and reporting, marine mammal sample inventory, including carcass rendering and shipping of samples as needed. Monitor necropsy and field supplies as necessary.
Candidate will be responsible for the cleanliness of the necropsy lab, and the execution of a chemical hygiene plan for the lab, including proper chemical storage, clean-up and cross-contamination protocol, MSDS files, chemical inventory, etc. Response to local marine mammal strandings may be required, with possible sampling and necropsies in the field and laboratory in addition to the completion of requested necropsy data sheets. The candidate for this position must have flexible hours, with possible long hours in uncomfortable situations.
Candidate will need to communicate effectively with staff and TMMSN necropsy volunteers in a timely manner to ensure that enough help is available to perform all tasks. The ability to perform marine mammal necropsies, or the potential to be trained to perform necropsies is an absolute must. Persons sensitive to formaldehyde, blood, odors, need not apply. Candidate must have a clean driving record and a valid Texas State Driver’s License.
LSS and Equipment Tech – Galveston, TX (Part-time position)
The Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network has need for an individual to manage the TMMSN life support system, vessels, trailers and facility equipment. This is a part time position.
Job Description and Qualifications: Candidate will manage and maintain TMMSN Galveston Facility rehabilitation pool equipment. Candidate must be familiar with the operation and maintenance of swimming pools, water pumps, sand filters, UV sterilization, protein fractionators, heat exchangers, and be proficient with PVC plumbing design and repair.
In addition to the LSS equipment duties, candidate is preferred to have strong mechanical skills and experience with hauling trailers/boats up to 30’ in length, and know how to repair or maintain trailers as needed including changing flat tires, hub bearings, bunk boards, trailer lights, etc. Boat handling/ATV experience preferred. Clean driving record is required with a valid Texas State Driver’s License.
