A postdoctoral research associate position is available to work with Dr. Anna Armitage and Dr. Antonietta Quigg in the Department of Marine Biology at Texas A&M University at Galveston. The Associate will 1) analyze data from a three year brackish marsh restoration project in Port Arthur, TX, and synthesize the results into peer-reviewed journal articles. Article topics may include (but are not limited to) food web development, patterns of carbon storage, and diversity/productivity relationships; and 2) Conduct independent research on a topic within the field of coastal ecology, with particular focus on faunal communities in restored and impacted wetlands on the Texas coast. Possible topics include metapopulation dynamics in restored wetlands and/or the development of stable isotope indicators of food web complexity. Additional duties may include assisting graduate students, coordinating restoration monitoring work, and generating reports for the funding agency.
This is a two-year position with an additional extension possible, contingent on funding.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. or equivalent in Biology, Ecology, or related field. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Additional qualifications desired: Strong analytical and writing skills, proficiency in the use of statistical packages such as SPSS, JMP, or R. Experience with field ecology methodologies, wetland fauna, community ecology, and use of stable isotopes.
Special requirements: Some field work is involved, which requires the physical ability to conduct research in the hot and humid conditions typical of Gulf of Mexico coastal wetlands.
Salary: $36,000/year with full benefits after 90 days of employment.
