We are seeking an Environmental Specialist for our Homestead office. Our successful candidate will be part of a field team working on monitoring the hydrology and ecology in southern Florida to increase understanding of surface and groundwater dynamics in the nearshore coastal zone. We are seeking an Environmental Specialist for our Homestead office. Our successful candidate will be part of a field team working on monitoring the hydrology and ecology in southern Florida to increase understanding of surface and groundwater dynamics in the nearshore coastal zone. Responsibilities:
- Collecting groundwater and surface water samples for a range of analytical parameters
- Measuring water quality onshore and offshore using automated instrumentation
- Cleaning and calibration of environmental instrumentation deployed across the landscape
- Data entry, data analyses and report-writing
- Fieldwork related to ecological monitoring in the bay, marsh, mangroves and tree islands of South Florida
- Technical support for a variety of projects related to permitting, water and natural resource evaluations, environmental restoration, and planning
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Geology, or a related field
- 0-3 years of experience
- If no prior consulting experience, relevant internship experience preferred
- Knowledge of water quality sampling protocols and maintenance of automated instrumentation is preferred
- Knowledge of South Florida ecology and botany including familiarity with exotic and native plant identification preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Access
- Ability to conduct fieldwork and studies in challenging conditions including summer Florida heat, waist deep water and mud, mosquitoes, and potentially the presence of alligators and crocodiles in remote locations that may only be accessible by foot, airboat, amphibious vehicle, boat, and helicopter
- Ability to work independently, wield a machete, and carry up to 50 lbs. of field gear
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally to support business needs
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent verbal communication, technical writing and research skills
- A valid driver’s license is required
